If there’s one thing guaranteed to get us out of bed on a weekend it’s the promise of a good café. So when we found ourselves with a rare free weekend we decided to make the most of it and rose early on Saturday to take the mountain bikes for a spin to the Croissant D’or, a café that Kirsty has had her eye on for months. I was sporting a brand new pair of wheels courtesy of Trek after my front wheel exploded in the Peak District a few weeks ago so was keen to give them a spin and after the tough slog up and over the Chevin we pointed ourselves downhill towards Rawdon and our much anticipated breakfast.

The croissants and coffee did not disappoint and after time spent lounging in the sun enjoying the fruits of our early departure we made tracks and headed back towards the Chevin via Tarnfield Dam. We took some fun downhill trails back down through the forest and arrived home before 10am with plenty of time to get on with DIY.

The weather remained beautiful for the whole day so as the evening drew near we decided it was too good not to head out again only this time we opted for road bikes. We took the back road from Otley over to Askwith where we set up camp in the Askwith Arms beer garden and treated ourselves to some quality Yorkshire beer and burgers.

We extended the ride home with a quick loop around Farnley and Pool and made it back just before the light disappeared ready to get an early night ahead of the Round Hill Fell race coming up the following morning.
